Owl Cupcakes

For Halloween, I tried making some cupcakes that had a slight resemblance to owls. I like owls. They’re also very Halloween-y.

For the base of the cupcakes, I used the olive oil chocolate cupcakes I made before, along with some simple chocolate frosting, whose recipe comes from that same website.

Chocolate Frosting

4 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Melt the butter, and stir in the cocoa powder until smooth. Then add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, and stir until smooth. Add more powdered sugar if it’s too thin; add more milk if it’s too stiff.

Very simple frosting, it doesn’t even require a mixer. This frosting is just going onto the cupcakes to make more stuff stick to it, so it doesn’t need to be anything fancy. It just has to taste good.

Here’s the frosting. Not the prettiest substance, but it doesn’t matter too much.

I assembled the cupcakes by putting two Oreo halves with the cream on them on each cupcake. Then, some Junior Mints for the pupils, and Reese’s Pieces (I only used the orange ones) for the beaks. I wish I could say I used one Oreo per cupcake, but I could never get the cream to split evenly between the two halves, so I ended up having to only take the half of each Oreo that the cream stuck to, and then saving a bunch of cream-less chocolate wafers for later.

I think they ended up looking quite cute. A bit creepy, maybe. But still cute.

They are all looking up at the sky, looking for people to eat them.
