iPad 2

Apple announced the iPad 2 yesterday. I was, as usual, hoping for something mind-blowing. Like you could run OS X on it. Or it’d be like way lighter and way cheaper or something. But it’s really a faster, thinner version of the first iPad, plus some cameras, at the same price. Which is nice, but… I don’t know, I always hope for a miracle when Apple announces another new toy.

At this point, I’m still really not that interested. To me, it’s kind of an odd device. It’s not full-featured enough to be a replacement for a laptop, and yet it’s not compact enough to really save that much space over a small laptop. So I guess I’m still not really that excited about it. I’d rather get a MacBook Air. For the same price as an iPad. It’s never going to happen, I know.

What’s with the cameras, though? When I’m holding an iPad, I’ve never thought, “If only I could take a picture with this right now!” I’d feel weird doing it. Holding up this book-sized thing to take a picture? It would look really awkward, I think. But maybe I’m just being cynical.

On the plus side, the previous version is $100 cheaper! Still $400 though…
